Best practices for sharing wildlife content
- Don't share imagery or text of illegal marine mammal viewing or surprise close encounters - it fuels demand for close encounters and works against the laws that protect these animals.
- Don't share captions that suggest a vessel was positioned for a close encounter (e.g. "the boat shut down as they approached"). Responsible whale watching respects minimum avoidance distances.
- Do note details that show the footage was taken legally and respectfully - with a reputable tour operator, the lens focal length used, whether the image was cropped, or if it was shot from land.
- Do include info relevant to safe, legal, Leave No Trace(opens in new tab) wildlife viewing.
- When in doubt, don't post it. Err on the side of the animals.
